The Best Diet for Ragdoll Cats: Nutrition Basics

Ragdolls are large, muscular cats, and a balanced diet is the foundation of their health. Look for a high-quality commercial cat food that lists real meat or fish as the first ingredient, with plenty of animal protein to support their size and energy.

Because Ragdolls can be prone to weight gain, measure meals rather than free-feeding, and follow the feeding guidelines for your cat’s age and activity level. Fresh water should always be available — many cats drink more from a wide, shallow bowl or a running water fountain.

Avoid sudden diet changes, which can upset sensitive stomachs; transition to any new food gradually over seven to ten days. And remember that treats should make up no more than about ten percent of daily calories. When in doubt, your veterinarian can help tailor a feeding plan to your individual cat.
