Ragdolls are generally healthy cats, but like every breed they have a few conditions worth knowing about. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a heart condition, is the most discussed concern in the breed — reputable breeders screen their cats, so always ask about health testing when choosing a kitten.
Urinary tract issues and hairballs can also occur, especially in less active cats. Encourage hydration, keep the litter box spotlessly clean, and maintain the regular grooming routine that keeps loose fur from being swallowed.
Prevention is straightforward: schedule annual veterinary checkups, keep vaccinations and parasite prevention current, and maintain a healthy weight through diet and play. Catching small changes early — in appetite, energy, or litter box habits — is the best way to keep your Ragdoll thriving for many years.
